Have you ever wondered if you could put your babysitting experience from when you were a teenager on your preschool teacher resume? Because you can!

When it comes to putting together your preschool resume, you can add any childcare related experience! This is not limited to classroom experience. This could be an informal experience such as tutoring, babysitting, and volunteering. These jobs give you the skills you need to become a great teacher, and therefore, you should add them to your resume.

For those who are pursuing a  college education, your student teaching and fieldwork experience counts as formal experience well, since you are working in a classroom setting. Make sure you add them to your resume, as they will give you the boost you need.

Writing your resume may be stressful, but we are here to help! For each job that you’ve held in the past, make sure to include the job title, name of company, location of the job, the dates worked there, and 3-4 bullet points of your main responsibilities. If you worked with children in your role, be sure to include the age range of the children that you worked with (for example, infant/toddlers, 2nd grade, middle school aged); highlight whether you used a specific education philosophy (for example, Montessori Method or Creative Curriculum); and call out whether you used another language during your role (for example, ASL or Spanish). All these details will make your resume shine!

If there is a job you’ve held in the past that is not related to childcare, take a minute and think about how your role and responsibilities can translate to teaching. For example, if you were an employee at a coffee shop and trained new employees, you can say “Designed and created onboarding materials and trained new employees successfully.” As an educator, it shows that you can create lesson plans and implement them in your classroom.

Writing your preschool teacher resume may take some time, but it will be worth it in the end. It can be used to apply to multiple schools, and you can show how amazing of an educator you are!
